Emergency Medical Services (EMS) are an integral part of this department. As perhaps the most important part, we encourage all personnel to be actively involved in the medical side of operations.
EMT certification is a valuable skill that the department encourages and provides multi-level support for. The department meets monthly to discuss and address a wide variety of medical-related topics in a continuing education format in order to keep with current trends and emergency treatment issues that impact patient care.
We are currently a BLS (Basic Life Support) agency and thus often rely upon our ALS partners such as American Medical Response and Airlife for mutual aid transports. This is due to our distance from major hospitals, and also to keep personnel "in district" when at all possible. These relationships ensure that patients get ALS (Advanced Life Support) contact when necessary and in the case of emergent need, Flight For Life helicopters reduce transport time significantly.
